Vintage Vehicle Show

Sweet! But then it always is. That’s the Vintage Vehicle Show brought to the community by Bill Mitchell, renowned for his historic art murals. Bill was at work early this morning, directing traffic from the three-wheeled electric cart so familiar to Anacortes residents. Another familiar “star” of the annual car show is the 1917 Mack truck restored by Dave Milholland. In this photo, Steve Demopoulos of Anacortes Marine Supply and Hardware helps Dave back the truck down from the rig lent by Norm Heiner for the ride into town. Steve’s grandfather, Mike Demopoulos, was the owner of the truck before Dave assumed ownership and did a miraculous restoration. Also behind the wheel of a vintage vehicle was Jerry Blades, driver of the 1941 American LeFrance fire truck owned by the LaConner Volunteer Firemen’s Association. Our last shot is of a man and boy reviewing the stats on a 1968 Mustang Cobra owned by Clayton George of Bellingham. Clayton discovered the show last year and enjoyed it so much he came back again. So do hundreds of vintage vehicle admirers. Thanks, Bill!

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
