Christmas Parade Part Deux

Sporting new purple and white “Santa caps” were members of the Anacortes High School Marching Band. An impressive contribution by a group of young musicians asked to brave cold weather and wind on their march up Commercial Avenue. Color commentary on the parade was offered by Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michael Broome and by Kim Streit, Lions Club member and parade coordinator. Streit is an ad representative for the Anacortes American, which also had an entry in the parade. You wouldn’t know it was December by looking at this group of Boy Scouts, clad in shirt sleeves as they played the role of color guard. It was a great holiday parade, complete with true Northwest onlookers who turned out with coats, hats and blankets.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
