Strawberry Bay Coffee Co.

Anacortes residents Mark and Mary Kiser have embarked on a new adventure as owners of Strawberry Bay Coffee Company, a drive-through coffee shop at the corner of 21st Street and “R” Avenue. Just look for the bright, copper roof on a colorful shop featuring service windows from north and south lanes. Strawberry Bay offers Cafe Vita, voted the Best Roasting Company in Seattle in 2003. The company’s coffee is made in a 1933 German roaster. In addition to coffee, the shop’s menu includes pastries. There are also “low carb options” in food and drink categories. Employees Kip and Nicole, pictured here, share barista duties with Whitney, Sara S. and Sara B. The shop is open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, and there are drink specials each day. Stop by for a treat … you can enjoy a view of Fidalgo Bay and Mt. Baker while you wait.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
