BJ benefit event

Several congregations and friends joined hands Saturday night for a benefit auction and concert on behalf of BJ Daniells, a Guemes Island resident who recently discovered he has a brain tumor. The evening included music and worship from members of the Bridge Christian Fellowship Praise Band, as well as several individual and small group performances. Among those who sang was BJ’s daughter, Rya. Also on hand for the evening of food, fellowship and worship were Teresa Gonzales and David Flareau, who traveled from Mexico to show support for their friend. BJ has led a Christian ministry to Mexico for many years. For information about his ministry, visit www.autl-ministry.com. Pictured are BJ and his wife, Darcy; BJ and friends; Rya singing; friends from Mexico including Teresa (left) and David. The event took place at Anacortes Christian Church, with support from The Bridge Christian Fellowship, Safe Harbor and Calvary Chapel. More benefit events will be taking place in coming weeks, including a May 20 event at Brodniak Hall featuring the Circuit Riders Gospel Singers. Donations can be made at Washington Federal Savings Bank to the BJ Daniells Fund.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
