Veterans at parade

Legionnaire Bill Taylor was among dozens of veterans of the U.S. armed forces on hand Tuesday, July 2 for the 2006 4th of July parade on Commercial Avenue in Anacortes. Also pictured here are Pat Mooney (business owner and port commissioner); Bud Strom (retired dentist, former mayor, council member and port commissioner); 87-year-old U.S. Marine veteran Vic Childs, Sr., decorated with ribbons and medals. Beside him is his son, James. Grand Marshals of the parade were current service people. Local businessman Bill Wooding even brought out his fleet of military vehicles including vintage tank and halftrack.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
