Fathers and sons

Niece Megan was married last weekend, an event that drew a full contingent of family together for the first time in several years. In the first photo, Megan’s father Ed Corley is pictured with sons Michael (left) and Steve. Little guys are Steve and Shannon’s sons, Reese (left) and Ryan. Mike and Steve, both Anacortes High School graduates, are now living in Tuscon and Long Beach, respectively. Mike is an anesthesiologist and Steve is juggling careers with Costco and the Longshoremen’s Union. The second photo is my father, Buehl, me (right), and brothers Rich and Nick. Rich is a contractor here in town. Nick’s career has been in dental equipment sales. He lives in Alabama in a new home just a few miles from the coast. My son Mark was at the wedding but had left to connect with friends as he had to return to his job in Oregon the next day. Photographer was “new son” Brian Tyhuis. He and Kirsten celebrate their first anniversary next month. A photo of me (third image) with Mark (left) and Brian was taken at a previous family gathering by sister Vickie, mother of the bride. Rich’s TJ, also living in Oregon, was unable to make the wedding. Wow, it was wonderful to see everyone again. Family is a great gift.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
