Anthony’s draws crowd

“Everybody’s who’s anybody” was present Friday, November 13 for the groundbreaking ceremony hosted by Anthony’s Restaurant and the Port of Anacortes. Anthony’s, a Northwest restaurant chain owned by the Gould family (some pictured here), will open a restaurant next summer at Cap Sante Boat Haven. Following an outdoor groundbreaking ceremony, the crowd moved to the Port Transit Shed Event Center on Commercial Avenue for a full lunch hosted by Anthony’s. Among speakers was Don Wick, Director of the Economic Development Association of Skagit County (EDASC). Other dignitaries included Mayor Dean Maxwell, port commissioners, county commissioners, state representative (Dave Quall), school board members, city council members, planning commission members, city and port staff. Pictured here in the buffet line are recently-re-elected Anacortes Port Commissioner Ray Niver and Anacortes Arts Festival Director Joan Tezak.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
