Bridge celebration
Saturday, July 31, 2010 marked the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Northwest landmark known as the Deception Pass Bridge. “The bridge” is actually two spans, connecting on a center island between Fidalo and Whidbey islands. Pictured here are a few of the 75th Anniversary participants, including a number of people who served in the Depression era Civilian Conservation Corps. Also pictured is Wallie V. Funk, an Anacortes native who spent a career in community journalism between Oak Harbor and Anacortes. He is seated beside Elna Iversen, who was president of the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce at the time the 50th anniversary of the bridge was celebrated in 1985. Photos by Brian Tyhuis.
