Derby field shots

Day One of the 2011 Anacortes Salmon Derby began for me at B Dock at Cap Sante Boat Haven. There I met up with Captain Jim Keith of Fox Island Salmon Charters. One of the other hats Jim wears is that of my brother-in-law. Even though we would finish the day without a fish, Jim, my son Mark and I had a great time. How can you not when you’re spending the day in the awesome San Juans neighborhood? Our fishing day was split between Cypress Island and Thatcher’s Pass. In addition to other derby participants, we spotted state ferries, a few sailboats, a tanker or two and a recreational vessel used temporarily by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
