Arts Festival offers spring ‘splash’ events

It’s a great time of year for a splash of color. The Anacortes Arts Festival invites you to  celebrate Spring in Skagit Valley with two exciting events on Saturday, April 14. Flip-flop the night away at the new Buffett Beach Bash on April 14 at the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed, from 6 – 11:30 p.m. Garratt Wilkin and the Parrotheads, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, will play Jimmy’s greatest songs and classic rock. The party features dancing, cheeseburgers, margaritas, a costume contest, swag and lots of fun. Tickets are $40, now available online through AnacortesArtsFestival.com. Evening proceeds support the Anacortes School District art programs. Start the day with the 4th annual “Do the Bloom” 5k Color Run. This event starts at the Depot Art Center at 10 a.m. Runners become living canvases, painted with bright colored powder throughout the course. This is a fun run, appropriate for all ages, groups. It starts and ends at the Anacortes Farmer’s Market. Register at Active.com.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
