These photos were taken Thursday in the wake of a “Feast of St. Nicholas” blessing of the local fishing fleet held midday at Seafarers’ Memorial. Each December 6, a special Seafarers Mass is held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church before a procession to the shoreline memorial park. Members of Croatian fishing families placed roses in front of the statue known as “Our Lady of the Sea,” and St. Mary’s Father Mel Strazicich blessed two wreaths of remembrance. One was laid at the tall memorial inscribed with names of fishermen who have died at sea, the other tossed into the water.
