Arts Festival sets sights on April

Mark your calendars for several April events hosted by the Anacortes Arts Festival. First is the 2nd Annual Buffet Beach Bash, Friday and Saturday, April 19 & 20 at the Port Transit Shed. The evening will feature music by Garratt Wilkin & The Parrotheads – a Jimmy Buffett tribute band from northern California. On the docket will be music, dancing, margaritas, cheeseburgers, parrothead swag, a costume contest – hours of fun with a tropical theme. Doors open at 6 pm for Margarita Happy Hour; the band starts at 7:30. Tickets are $45, available through the Festival website: www.AnacortesArtsFestival.com. Proceeds fund arts education for the Anacortes School District.

A second Apirl event is the 5th annual Do the Bloom Color Run on Saturday, April 13 – starting at the Depot Art Center at 10 am. This 5K or 1-Mile Fun Run takes runners through Cap Sante Marina along the Anacortes waterfront. Runners become living canvases with color throwers stationed throughout the course. This run is suitable for all ages, groups – even friendly dogs. Register at Active.com.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
