Fidalgo fauna

A desire to get some exercise and fresh air turned out to be a wonderful opportunity to see Spring blooms in the forest and on the bluffs of Sharpe Park on the west side of Fidalgo Island. Not sure of some of my plant IDs. Early morning sun was wonderful, but I had to use […]

Finds on a forest floor

A hike on a neighborhood trail today yielded new images for my forest “gallery.” Mushrooms, wildflowers, ferns. I heard a couple of woodpeckers, but did not see them. An owl, too. Again, unseen. Spring sun, rising temperatures are bringing beautiful changes each day.

Winged friends on shoreline

What a wonderful adventure! My solo walk at Ship Harbor turned into a hike to wetlands, those exposed on the shoreline and those tucked away near the state ferry terminal. I saw one eagle, one bunny and MANY birds. All shapes and sizes, from hummingbird and kingfisher to blue heron and Canada goose. Many plants […]

‘Hiking Close to Home’ blog a real gem

Sun ‘explodes’ onto horizon

The supermoon drew me out early in the morning, but this scene to the east caught my eye. The spear-shaped cloud appears to end in an “explosion” over the horizon. It’s actually the morning sun.

Given the meeting restrictions mandated in response to the coronavirus pandemic, this Navy air squadron event was videotaped and posted online. Onsite attendance, usually dozens including squadron members, was restricted to two families and a handful […]

Forest solitude

Light, shadows, colors, textures, songbirds. I needed this time alone on a forest trail. On the way to and from home, I captured images to share, knowing that many are inside, 24-7.

Eagles old school: black & white

An encounter with two immature eagles on a Fidalgo Island beach prompted me to put together this small collection of images in black and white. Grateful to spend a few minutes in their world.
