Scenes from 2019 “Do the Bloom Color Run” in Anacortes Saturday, April 12. This event is sponsored by the Anacortes Arts Festival in conjunction with the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Runners encounter “color tossers” who convert them to “living art.”
The sunsets are beautiful from Cap Sante, to be sure, be there are many others sources of enjoyment in this Anacortes “neighborhood” surrounded by water.

It was 1984, the year the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce decided to build a festival around the already popular tulip industry in the Skagit Valley. I scanned these transparencies from my photo archives. Mount Vernon folks will find at least a couple of familiar faces in the pancake breakfast photo!
It was Skagit Valley Tulip Festival 1985, when hot air balloons filled the sky near the Skagit River and downtown Mount Vernon. Meanwhile, Roozengaarde began to attract crowds — crowds that have never stopped growing. Today the Festival is celebrated during the entire month of April.
