Tulip ambassadors - 02/12/2009
April is the official month for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, but pre-festival events such as selection of young "tulip ambassadors" are already making the news. Although the focus of festival-goers is the Skagit Valley, many tourists "spill into" Anacortes for events including the annual Anacortes Quilt Show. In addition, the festival's list of sponsors includes many local businesses, including: Shell Puget Sound Refinery, Tesoro Refinery, the Whale (KWLE), the Chamber of Commerce, Calico Cupboard, Marina Inn, Ship Harbor Inn, Anaco Bay Inn, Star Bar, Rockfish/Brewery (the festival's official beer), Anaco Inn, Anacortes Inn, Nantucket Inn, Bob’s Chowder Bar, Adrift, Gere-A-Deli, TransPac Marinas, RIS Insurance, Windermere, Pioneer Trails RV Resort, Bankers Advertising, Deception Pass Boat Tours, Wizards of Ooze, Swinomish Casino, and the Majestic Inn & Spa.
