Deception Pass Bridge celebration

> Join in the celebration on Saturday, July 31 as the Deception Pass State Park Foundation celebrates the 75th anniversary of the bridge. See http://www.deceptionpassfoundation.org/ for details. The biggest challenge of the day will be finding a parking spot and a way to travel from park to bridge, which will be close for just one minute to mark the anniversary. I’ll be there. I remember my Grandpa and Dad telling the story of driving over the bridge with a flat tire on opening day in 1935. As is the case the case today, there is no place to pull over on the narrow bridge, and the crowd for the bridge opening was large.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
