It was August 2002 when the An-O-Chords hosted a salmon barbecue at Washington Park that also featured competition among regional barbershop quartets. A win-win, with great music and delicious food!

This lady has been one of my favorite photo subjects for MANY years now. She’s a regular in Anacortes, docking at Cap Sante Marina for tours and jaunts in local waters. Not sure we’ll see her this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Owls in the wild have managed to elude me over the years, with the exception of a North Whidbey sighting and one at Mt. Erie. That doesn’t mean I haven’t had some great photo ops, however. I photographed this beauty a few years ago at the Skagit River Salmon Festival. Numerous birds were on display […]
“Viking boat” builder Jay Smith presided in November 2017 over the launch of yet another amazing vessel built in his Fidalgo Island shop. Master boatbuilder Smith apprenticed in Norway, worked in the Faroe Islands and Denmark, and studied under master boatbuilder Nils O. Ulset. The well-attended launch took place at Bowman Bay.
I took this photo in 2004. A small wharf house on the Guemes Channel, next door to Anchor Cove Marina.

Wow. Almost 20 years ago now since my son and I made a visit to the new Experience Music Project (EMP) in downtown Seattle. The EMP, which opened in 2000, was designed by Frank Gehry with the late Paul Allen providing the bucks. Fascinating photo opportunities, inside and out.
Looking back today to 4th of July 2016, when Town Crier Richard Riddell led a contingent of Boy Scouts up Commercial Avenue to start the Lions Club Independence Day parade! Memories, sweet memories.
I am saddened, here on Independence Day Eve, to come to grips with the reality that there will be no parade or related gatherings in our community this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. In an effort to ease the pain of this loss, I spent some time in AnacortesToday.com photo archives gathering photo memories of […]
