Hearty holiday family

These young parents were among a couple of dozen hearty souls who gathered Friday night for a lighting ceremony at Causland Park. Apparently the event was cancelled due to weather, but word didn’t get out to everyone … including this photographer. Lion’s club member Tim Walters succeeded in getting a few lights lit on the gazebo, so this family decided to take a photo for the memory book. I had a chance to see long-time family friends: David, Janet and Marie Rice. Maybe we’ll see each other again at the “real” Christmas lights event. In mean time, look for free horse drawn carriage rides downtown starting Saturday.

About Steve Berentson
A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
