Shell donates to Elks

Members of the Anacortes Elks Lodge handled decorations Wednesday for a Shell Puget Sound Refinery safety recognition event. At the same time, Elks President Beau McCallum (2nd from left, front) received a $500 donation from Shell representatives Brett Woltjen and Mark Koslicki (right, front). The donation will go toward the Washington Elks Therapy Program for Children, which funds in-home therapy for more than 400 physically and mentally disabled children in Washington State. Twenty-seven of those children live in Skagit County. Elk volunteers in the photograph include (back, l. to r.) Kat Roeper, Erica Springer, Brad Chrysler and Roger Buck; (front, left) Stanley Jewel.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
