Wind damage

Published February 4, 2006 / by Steve Berentson

Wind and rain dealt damaging blows to Anacortes this weekend, including this high-profile hit on the New Wilson renovation project downtown. Emergency crews worked all day on the twisted wreck of a wall of scaffolding and protective plastic wrap on the hotel’s north side. Commercial Avenue and two side streets were closed to traffic to give the crew opportunity to cut, pull and lift ravaging project components from the street. Other storm damage included power outages in Skyline and other parts of “uptown” Anacortes. We send out an expression of gratitude and a prayer for the safety of emergency crews here and throughout the storm-ravaged Northwest.

About Steve Berentson
A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
