Look to the wet end of Commercial Avenue these days and you’ll spot the superstructure of the state ferry Elwha, in town for awhile to undergo maintenance and repairs. Currently the vessel is in drydock, just outside the front door to Port of Anacortes administrative offices. Back in the day, the state ferry terminal was located at this site. Today the state ferry system is the largest in the U.S., and the third largest in the nation.
