Oyster Run eve

This row of Harley Davidson motorcycles in front of the Majestic Inn and Spa Friday evening was just a hint of things to come, as this Sunday marks the 25th Anniversary of the annual Oyster Run. Thousands of motorcyclists will descend on Anacortes today, even though Sunday, September 24 is the “official” date of the Oyster Run. Friday’s “trickle” of bikes arriving in town will become a “stream” Saturday and a “flood” Sunday. Simply travel on Commercial Avenue toward the downtown area and you will see thousands of bikes.

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands.
