Anacortes resident Stan Jewell, who served in the U.S. Navy in WWII, is a familiar face among local veterans. He is past commander of the local post of the American Legion, and routinely takes part in cermonies on holidays such as Veterans Day, Independence Day and Memorial Day. On Thursday he made a presentation to Island View Elementary School students, bringing an American Legion collection of historic flags for a Veterans Day assembly. He is pictured here with the 13-star American flag, featuring a star for each of the first states of the union.
