Love gift

Published December 26, 2006 / by Steve Berentson

It was a pie for the patriarch this Christmas as daughter Kirsten took another step in the refinement of her baking skills. Dad was the fortunate recipient of this gift, a lemon meringue pie that I determined to be fit for a photograph. My banana cream pie, also gorgeous, fell from “portrait eligibiity” after I jumped on the first slice. There have been many tasty treats, but as always, the real pleasure of the holiday has been the opportunity to worship and spend time with family and friends. His is the ultimate “Christmas presence,” the gift from a loving father whose desire is to spend eternity with all of his children. Merry Christmas!

About Steve Berentson
A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
