Salvation Army event

Officers, staff and guests gathered Tuesday afternoon for a dedication ceremony at the Salvation Army Anacortes Corps facility on “R” Avenue. Among those present for the dedication of a new Family Services area were (l. to r.) retired Salvation Army Lt. Col. Harold Brodin, Major Jerold Forney, Major Carol Forney, Paula John and Joanne Reinikka. In the background is Pastor John Douglas of Anacortes Christian Church. Other guests at the luncheon event included Mayor Dean Maxwell. The Salvation Army recently purchased a portion of the building formerly occupied by a boat charter business. Family services including the food bank are now operated out of the added space, rather than from an area at the rear of the building. Look for a new electronic reader board to go up soon.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
