Community embraces Celtic Christmas

What a great combination! Phillanthropy and entertainment. Hundreds gathered Saturday night for two shows at the Port of Anacortes Event Center. Benefit performances by Geoffrey Castle “bookended” a lighted boat parade. Castle’s high energy performance focused first on children with a 4 p.m. matinee, and then on a largely adult audience at 6:30 p.m. The price of admission for the show was food items, toys or monetary donations to be shared among charities including community food banks, Toys for Tots and Anacortes Youth Arts. Appearing with Castle were the crowd-pleasing Gothard Sisters, a talented trio with performance elements including Irish dance, violins and vocals. Also appearing was Santa, who drew children from the crowd to assist with jingle bells and songs.

About Steve Berentson
A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
