Scouts on the water

I initially mistook this beautiful boat for one of the steamboats gathered last weekend at Cap Sante Boat Haven. The Tacoma Sea Scouts Ship 110, the Charles N. Curtis, is part of a program of the Pacific Harbors Council Boy Scouts of America for young men and women ages 14 to 21. Through the use of boating and maritime skills, the Sea Scouts teach and develop leadership, citizenship, responsibility and respect. Boats are also available for recreational and educational cruises and harbor tours in Commencement Bay and the Puget Sound in Washington State. For more information, see www.charlesncurtis.com.

About Steve Berentson
A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
