Mayor Strom marks 90th

Published October 7, 2012 / by Steve Berentson

Anacortes native Dr. Eugene “Bud” Strom celebrated his 90th birthday in style Sunday afternoon, choosing to share the spotlight with the Salvation Army Anacortes Corps. Strom, pictured here with son Erik, is still actively engaged in community service ranging from the Salvation Army Advisory Board to the Kiwanis Club (more than 60 years!). Strom is a retired dentist with a lifetime of civic service including stints as city council member, school board member, port commissioner, Chamber of Commerce officer and mayor. Strom’s birthday event drew an impressive cross section of guests including family and fellow members of the First Baptist Church.

About Steve Berentson
A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
