Mayer honored by Port

Sheila Mayer was recently named Port of Anacortes Employee of the Year for 2012. “I love my job,” said Maher, who serves as a customer service representative at Cap Sante Marina. “We have a good team here.” Activity at the public marina is often intense, especially in spring and summer months. Last year, rendezvous alone drew 453 boats to Cap Sante Marina; 22 such events with 466 boats have already been scheduled for 2013, and the year is young. Trawlerfest and the Anacortes Salmon Derby will draw another 475 boats to the marina. In addition to shared responsibility for marina guests, Maher handles permanent moorage customer accounts.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
