Act of kindness

I was fortunate this afternoon to witness this wonderful moment. I was in my car near the intersection of 6th and Commercial Avenue when I saw this man put his car in park and hold his hand up to signal those of us behind him in traffic. He then proceeded to chase down a small yellow balloon in the middle of the road. Having accomplished that task, he walked to the street corner on the west side of the street, where he met this boy and his adult companion. The exchange of the precious balloon was made … the Samaritan gave a wave … and we all proceed on our busy ways. An act of kindness … a gift to all who watched on.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
