On target for charity

As you can see from this photo, the softball “pitcher” is on target! That’s Tesoro refinery manager Dan Cameron in the dunk tank, taking his turn in the dunk tank as the plant kicks off its 2014 United Way campaign. When the Skagit County United Way kicked off its campaign in Mount Vernon last month, Tesoro and United Steelworkers Local 12-591 stepped forward with a “Pacesetter” check of $135,000. Now with the in-house campaign, there is more to come for the non-profit. Based on a record of more than 50 years of contributions from the Anacortes refinery, that “temperature gauge” will soon move to the top.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
