A win-win Christmas tree

Act now to make your Christmas decorations complete at the same time you contribute to community. Once again this year Kiwanis Sunrisers Club volunteers are staffing a Christmas tree lot at Sebo’s hardware on Commercial Avenue. Pictured here are Warren Questo, Bill Brown, Bill Murray and Bob Neumann. Kiwanis Sunrisers donates all proceeds locally! Recipient organizations include Kids R Best, K Kids, Scouts, Special Olympics, Salvation Army Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and more! The group also maintains the “Welcome to Anacortes” pullout on Highway 20. (Footnote: the club is looking for members. They meet weekly, Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. Contact one of these guys if you’re interested in being part of a great community organization.)

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
