Alley Cat comes down

Heavy equipment operators will likely finish demolition of walls today (February 14) at the former location of Alley Cat antiques on north Commercial Avenue. The building is scheduled to be leveled to make way for a new building for software company Integra (next door neighbor). There will be a new building connected to the existing Integra building by a skybridge. Contractor is Trico. Alley Cat has moved some inventory to 1717 Commercial (once The Business). Ultimately they will also have two other shops: Marine Supply & Hardware at 202 Commercial and Alley Cat Antiques at 208 Commercial.

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
