The long boat “Tuvaaq” and crew are silouetted against a Mt. Baker backdrop Saturday morning before the start of a Pacific Challenge ship’s boats competition in Anacortes. See Activities section for more photos.
What might at first glance appear to be an island is actually a seaweed-covered rock at water’s edge at the end of 5th Street, near Cap Sante. Visible in the distance is a small boat sailing in front of Mt. Baker.
With spring just around the corner, Mt. Baker has been peeking out of the clouds more regularly. Here a sailboat motors up the Guemes Channel toward Fidalgo Bay.
Cap Sante is the place to be when the sun is shining … an easily accessible vantage point to look down on our beautiful city and water activities including recreational boating. Also worthy of note is progress on construction of a new breakwater for Cap Sante Boat Haven. Just a short distance away, progress continues […]
Sunshine and blue skies drew me to the beach at Ship Harbor, one time site of a salmon cannery or two. The harbor is now home to the state ferry terminal. I’m reminded of the stalagmites I once saw in Luray Caverns in Virginia, but there’s nothing natural about these formations. The heaping mounds of […]
A recent photo project inspired me to dig into my archives. One of the images, taken on a Mt. Baker climb, remains among my favorites. I’m in love with Northwest blues and greens.
I wasn’t the only one eager to take advantage of the re-emergence of the sun Monday. There were still a dozen or so folks at the top of Mt. Erie about 4:15 p.m. when I shot this photo of the moon over Baker. Views were spectacular from all vantage points. Tuesday and Wednesday weather reports […]
In terms of weather, we’re going out with a bang on New Year’s Eve 2007. What a glorious day! I shot this photo from 5th Street at the base of Cap Sante about 4 p.m.
A round-the-isle excursion earlier this week yielded a few different looks at majestic Mt. Baker. Skyline residential community lies in the foreground.
Students from an Anacortes Park and Recreation class sail toward Cap Sante, with a barely visible Mt. Baker looming on the horizon.
It was almost one year ago now that I was treated to an aerial “tour” of Anacortes and environs. This photograph includes the Anacortes waterfront in the foreground, Padilla Bay and Mt. Baker on the horizon. Situated in the center is the tip of March’s Point, flanked by Fidalgo and Padilla bays.
Just as this sailboat sailed away from Anacortes Saturday morning, the year 2006 is sailing away today, Sunday, December 31. This one flew by, didn’t it? I’m beginning to believe my 81-year-old dad, who suggests ever-so-bluntly that the pages of the calendar disappear at an increased speed as one grows older.
