With spring just around the corner, boat activity is picking up. A weekend visit to Washington Park gave me opportunity to photograph a kayaker, recreational fishermen and state Fisheries officers. It’s the water!
This photo from 38th Street in south Anacortes demonstrates how important boating is to this community. Among marinas visible here on the shore of Fidalgo Bay are Cap Sante Marina (950 slips, approx. 100 transient), Fidalgo Marina (55 slips) and Anacortes Marina (466 slips). Also visible are upland storage facilities, some offering marine services. Other […]
In addition to maintenance and repair work, crews at Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) had a busy year with new construction. Pictured here are two tugboats currently being built at the downtown Anacortes shipyard. The Anacortes American reports that work is under way on six 90-foot U.S. Navy tugboats, which are expected to be completed by […]
From open house invitations on power boats to racing competition among remote controlled boats, people attending the 2009 Anacortes Waterfront Festival enjoyed many entertainment options.
Not only are Anacortes marinas full, but there are hundreds of vessels on land as well. Some boats are in storage; others in for maintenance and repair; still others fresh off the assembly line. Take a drive through the city’s industrial area east of “R” Avenue for a glimpse of this side of the local […]
Once again this year, volunteers from the Fidalgo Island Rotary Club enthusiastically embraced the family-friendly Waterfront Festival as “hosts” of the boat-building booth and pond in the children’s activities area. Pictured here are Rotary volunteers Mary Staley, Sally Wirtzfeld and Bill Rabel. These little wooden boats not only float … but they look great. Thanks […]
While the recreational vessel in the foreground headed back for Cap Sante Boat Haven, the working boat moved east. A day on the water for both. Different “missions,” both traditionally Northwest.
Now this is a beautiful parking lot. Boats at anchor off the shoreline of Biz Point.
With spring just a few days away, boaters are making preparations for time on the water. This Saturday morning scene includes a couple of power boats in Fidalgo Bay, with Mt. Baker serving as a breathtaking point of reference.
A bald eagle stands guard over the northeast tip of Fidalgo Island Saturday morning as a pair of boats round the corner from the Guemes Channel into Fidalgo Bay.
Wayne Martin of Anacortes is among a number of Northwest Remote Control Ship Modelers displaying their miniature boats at the 2005 Anacortes Waterfront Festival. This free, family-oriented event continues Sunday, May 22 until 6 p.m. See www.anacortes.org for details.
They come in all shapes and sizes. A sailboat glides down the Guemes Channel on a sunny weekday. Lovric’s shipyard, on the Fidalgo side of the channel below 12th Street, is in the foreground.
