Ocean Shores on the southwest coast of Washington is renowned as a great place for kite flying. Why travel that far, however, if you can just grab your kite and head for Deception Pass State Park, like this boy (far left) did Friday.

Age-old pastime

Take one beach, add boy and rocks, and you’ll soon find that boy engaged in the great adventure of skipping stones. That was the case Saturday when I visited Seafarers’ Memorial Park in downtown Anacortes. What a great place to be on a sunny summer day!

Top runner

Takeo Nystrom of Anacortes was overall winner among boys competing in the 2007 Tesoro Fun Run Half Mile race Saturday. It was a family affair, with brothers Akira and Kenji finishing second and sixth. For other race winners, see Activities section under Race Winners.
