Shirtsleeves shift

A brick wall on the perimeter of the Island Hospital expansion project went up Wednesday morning under blue skies and warm temperatures. I always enjoy watching someone engaged in the ancient art of bricklaying.

Investment in history

Work contines high above the street at the Scott Milo Gallery building on 4th and Commercial Avenue. Crews continue to chip away at an assignment including new windows and re-grouting between bricks. Another investment in historic downtown Anacortes.

Investment in history

Monday morning sun illuminates the historic corner building that is home to Maison et Jardin home and garden shop and the Red Snapper gift shop. Just around the corner is Johnny Picasso’s Ceramic Lounge.

Proud post office

Among the most impressive buildings in this community is the U.S. Post Office, located in downtown Anacortes just a block from City Hall. Visit the post office to see a classic post-Depression era painting high on the south wall of the customer service area.
