The clock is ticking on Christmas 2019, and Anacortes merchants are eager to assist those who are still chipping away at their gift list. See www.anacortes.org for details about the city’s “Coastal Christmas” campaign, including opportunities to buy/qualify for gift rewards. Nostalgia time. Christmas 2005 in Anacortes, including parade scenes as well as a decorated shop window (Maison Jardin) and a couple of scenes from Causland Memorial Park. Remember Anna Curtis painted on the side of the New Wilson Hotel? Remember Bill Berry’s KLKI “remotes?” Remember Biker Santa Mike and his rosy cheeked sidekick, Sue? Check […]
In keeping with this island city’s “Coastal Christmas” theme, the topper on this year’s community tree is a large mermaid. The unique topper decorates the top of a tree made up of crab traps with wraparound greens and maritime theme decorations. Another Anacortes Chamber of Commerce production!

Once again this year, the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce and downtown merchants have lit up Commercial Avenue to create a special holiday atmosphere. In addition to white lights, Christmas wreaths decorate the main street, north and south. Many merchants have also created colorful display windows … and free horse trolley rides are available each Saturday […]
“Living Christmas tree” indeed. My wife LaDonna scored this awesome shot of kittens on a recent visit to a friend’s home. The adventurous kittens found the decorated tree irresistible, as evidenced here as they emerged from inner branches to greet their guests. (No kittens were injured in the making of this special Christmas memory.)
I didn’t venture out on Christmas Day, but my friend Del Zane was more adventurous. He grabbed his camera and headed out mid-afternoon for a series of shots from the beach at Burrows Bay. Wow! To see more of Del’s work, visit www.delzane.zenfolio.com.
Look for these smiling faces on Christmas Eve day (Saturday, December 24) as the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce sponsors the final day of free horse-drawn trolley rides in the Historic Downtown area. This year’s merchant theme is “Tidings of Joy.” Horses Slim and Bill pull the trolley between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This week’s […]
In addition to encouraging businesses to decorate for the holidays, the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce does its part at its Commercial Avenue business office and Visitors Center.
Thanks to the Chamber of Commerce and downtown merchants, holiday weekend excursions in Anacortes included the option of hot cider and a horse drawn trolley ride. Among those who enjoyed the ride was Gabriel, pictured here with his father and “Slim,” who works side by side with “Bill” pulling the trolley each Saturday. Other holiday […]
Some of the vocalists from the Anacortes High School Jazz Choir volunteered to entertain Saturday during the intermission at Geoffrey Castle’s Christmas benefit performance. Students of all ages have been busy in the past few weeks, taking part in community events ranging from the Lions Christmas Parade to individual school concerts at Brodniak Auditorium. Director […]
Renowned violinist Geoffrey Castle again entertained Anacortes audiences with a benefit performance at the Port of Anacortes Event Center on the Guemes Channel. Castle is pictured here with one of the Gothard Sisters, a talented trio with multiple skills.
