Sister Cities on parade

Duane Clark and friends paraded through town last Saturday, celebrating the Christmas season on behalf of Sister Cities organizations including those of Anacortes and Sidney, British Columbia. Anacortes Sister Cities include not only Sidney, but Vela Luka, Croatia; Nikaho (Kisakata), Japan; Lomonosov, Russia.

KWLE 1340 (The Whale) radio station owner/GM Robert Uteda and News Director Glen Harris broadcast “remotes” during many community events, including the recent Lions Club Christmas Parade.

Many hats

Anacortes resident Frank Orr wears many hats, and vests for that matter. Last Saturday he donned his Kiwanis vest to volunteer his skills as a musician to the Lion’s Christmas Parade. Frank can be found with fiddle at many events, including the annual Antique Machinery Show. Thanks for your contributions!

Shell Firemen a Hit at Parade

Once again this year, giant inflatable “firemen” from Shell Puget Sound Refinery were a hit among children attending the Anacortes Christmas Parade. Emergency response equipment and personnel from Anacortes and surrounding fire districts also contribute to the Historic Downtown Parade. Merchants parade through town

Numerous merchants from Historic Downtown Anacortes joined together on a horse-drawn trolley to participate in the 2010 Christmas Parade. Free trolley rides are offered on Saturdays. See www.anacortes.org for details, and don’t forget to “Buy Close By.”

Community kicks off Christmas season

This city by the sea kicked off Christmas season 2010 Friday, December 3 with a Community Christmast Tree event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. In a star-studded evening that included visits by Town Crier and Santa, local school students also provided live entertainment. Among entertainers was Sarah Tisinger, a student at Anacortes High School.

Parade faces

As usual, the Anacortes Christmas Parade featured a colorful collection of characters, ranging from Santa to a little person playing a role in the Anthony’s Restaurant float. Also pictured are Bill Mitchell (the dalmatian’s one dimensional) and a cool member of the Anacortes High School Marching Band.

Musical gifts

Among gifts exchanged in Anacortes this year was the gift of music, as provided by school choirs and band members at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Represented in these images are students from Mt. Erie Elementary School and Anacortes High School. Sarah Tisinger (bottom) sang a pair of solos.

Christmas on parade

Hundreds lined the streets of Historic Downtown Anacortes for the annual Christmas Parade Saturday, December 4. Opening parade photos featured the state ferry Hyak as a backdrop. Christmas season 2010 kicked off today with a series of holiday events, culminating Friday evening with the Chamber’s Community Christmas Tree lighting event.
