A stunning view of the city Wednesday morning from the top of the hill looking north over the city waterfront. That’s Anacortes Marina in the foreground, Fidalgo Bay and Cap Sante Boat Haven in the center, and the Guemes Channel at the top of the frame.
This mural at the Marina Inn on Commercial Avenue is the latest work by local artist Bill Mitchell. The 12-foot piece was inspired by a photo of the vessel “City of Anacortes,” boasting a group of enthusiastic passengers lining the deck. It’s worth a stop for an up-close-and-personal viewing of Bill’s meticulous work.
Among activities at last week’s 4th of July celebration was the opportunity to acknowledge the city’s 125th birthday. In addition to sharing a piece of cake, the public was invited to sign a Happy Birthday banner. See more photos in Activities section under City Birthday.
