Sunshine broke through right on time for the Depot Garden Art Fair in downtown Anacortes this weekend. The fair continues through Sunday. Check out artist Dennis Cant’s work.
Light landscaping was underway Friday in the space next door to The Depot Arts Center, where the Farmers’ Market will soon open its 2008 season. This weekend the space will welcome folks to the Depot Garden Art Fair, open Saturday and Sunday. The Farmers’ Market opens on the same weekend as the Anacortes Waterfront Festival: […]
One of my favorite Bill Mitchell murals is this one of train conductor Walt Miller. The mural is mounted on the side of a building adjacent to the old Anacortes Depot, a building once used by Tommy Thompson to house his narrow gauge locomotive and cars.
Some time when you’ve got a few minutes, take a walk through the madrone grove downtown by the Depot Art Center. City plans call for development of a park in this area, but it’s already a beautiful place to relax. Don’t miss the pond adjacent to the effluent plant.
Executive chef Robert Atterberry delighted guests at the Chamber of Commerce “After Hours” event Thursday at the Depot Arts Center. Delicious selections included Caesar salad, salmon, barbecued ribs and sourdough bread. The Depot is home to the Anacortes Farmers Market each weekend. Atterberry, who owns Avenue Catering, is at the Farmers Market each Saturday with […]
Open for only a few days each spring is the window of opportunity for this scene, featuring pink blossoms and the artwork of local muralist Bill Mitchell. The mural decorates the wall of The Deport Arts Center on “R” Avenue. Soon crowds will gather for a variety of spring events including the May 20 opening […]
I believe this building dates back to the days of Tommy Thompson’s narrow gauge Anacortes Railway, a custom-built train that delighted city residents and visitors alike until Thompson’s death and a decision to move the train elsewhere. The building stands just to the north of The Depot Art Center at the historic site of the […]
Reflections on a pond between the Anacortes Depot and the city wastewater treatment plant.
With ornamental trees in full bloom, this is a particularly beautiful time of the year to visit the Depot Art Center at 7th and R Avenue.
Work continues on a new interpretive center located between the W.T. Preston sternwheeler and The Depot. The depot was abandoned years ago by Pacific Northern Railroad. The Preston was decommissioned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Anacortes was named recipient in a grant process.
