It was quiet on this Saturday at Ship Harbor, site of the state ferry terminal in Anacortes. A Canada goose paddles toward the beach, a recreational boater and the state ferry Elwha in the background. There were only a few cars in the terminal parking lot.
State ferry Elwha, currently moored at Curtis Wharf on the Guemes Channel. Late Saturday afternoon.
State vessel “Sealth” left Anacortes last week and the “Elwha” slipped in right after her. Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) has the state ferry in drydock at the north end of Commercial Avenue. Work Monday afternoon included a cleaning of a giant Elwha propeller.
September can be a awesome month in terms of weather. This was the view Tuesday afternoon from the New Wilson Hotel looking north toward the Guemes Channel. That’s the Majestic Inn and Spa, the state ferry Elwha in drydock and a crane at work at the Dakota Creek Industries shipyard. A tree-lined Commercial Avenue is […]

Less than one week after the re-opening of the Anacortes to Sidney, B.C. run, the WSF vessel Elwha is out of service, towed to Anacortes Friday with electrical problems. This photo was taken last Sunday during an inaugural 2006 sailing event at the Sidney terminal. The Chelan will replace the Elwha for the sailing to […]
Historic elements of state ferrying days gone by include this ship’s wheel mounted in the bow area of the Elwha. Old equipment is also mounted on a wall inside the ferry terminal at Ship’s Harbor in Anacortes.
Just a few weeks ago, this front row bench on the bow of the state ferry Elwha would have been filled with passengers eager to see the wonders of the San Juans. On a rainy Thursday morning two weeks into the school year, the bench was empty. Most of the few passengers above decks were […]
