Whitewater and sea kayaking look exciting, but I’ve got to believe a peaceful paddle on a Fidalgo Island lake yields rewards beyond an adrenalie rush. These kayakers were photographed Monday along the shores of Heart Lake.
The often bustling Heart Lake shoreline was quiet Monday, affording this fisherman the opportunity to spend a relaxing afternoon with few “neighbors” to distract him.
Performing Saturday night at the Heart of Anacortes was local singer Lane Fernando. The Heart of Anacortes is a new 4th Street music venue offered by Mark Edson and Chris Terrell. Performing with Fernando were Skagit County musicians Steve Stolpe, Dan Duggin and Stuart Torgerson.

Sunday, Day II of the new freshwater fishing season, was a busy one, as evidenced by this scene at Heart Lake in Anacortes. Lake Erie was busy, too, as was Pass Lake. Pass is a fly-fishing lake, no boat motors.
