Shirtsleeves shift

A brick wall on the perimeter of the Island Hospital expansion project went up Wednesday morning under blue skies and warm temperatures. I always enjoy watching someone engaged in the ancient art of bricklaying.

Crews began laying down roof panels Wednesday on the addition being constructed at Island Hospital. General contractor on the project is Lydig Construction.

Sun on site

Construction crews at Island Hospital enjoy a break in the weather as progress continues on the public facility’s expansion. Crews to date have seen it all … from rain to hail to snow. Here comes the sun!

Hospital expansion

Heavy equipment crews are hard at work on a project site between Commercial Avenue and Island Hospital. The $7.3 million construction project includes a new facility for physical therapy, cancer care and dialysis services. Project manager is Marc Estvold.

A team from Shell Puget Sound Refinery works diligently, decorating a Christmas tree as part of Island Hospital Foundation’s annual Celebration of Trees at the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed Event Center. Donors honored

A reception hosted Thursday by the Island Hospital Foundation presented opportunity to thank donors to the non-profit organization. Among dozens of donors gathered at the Depot Arts Center was Ike Schlicting (center), who recently donated $400,000 to the Foundation. Top tree

Thanks in large part to a $15,000 bid for this tree, the Island Hospital Foundation grossed almost $48,000 at a Christmas tree auction held Saturday. This tree was donated by the emergency response department at Shell Puget Sound Refinery.
