Bustling north end

That’s Cap Sante in the foreground, Guemes Island on the horizon. In between are many of the businesses and organizations that contribute in significant ways to this community’s health. Look for City Hall and the city wastewater treatment plant. See Port of Anacortes facilities including Pier 2; Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) shipyard and Trident Seafoods. […]

Glass top

I don’t know if “cupola” is the correct description for this design feature, but I love it. Seems like only yesterday that the Port of Anacortes developed the North Basin of Cap Sante Boat Haven … but it’s been more than 25 years! This is the top of the restroom building, attached to a laundry […]

North Beach

Summer sunshine draws thousands to Deception Pass State Park, which includes beaches, trails and camping on Whidbey AND Fidalgo islands. This photo of North Beach was taken from the bridge.

Marina flyover

Last Saturday’s Boating Season kickoff event at Cap Sante Boat Haven included a seaplane flyover by Mike Rosai of American Steel Erectors in Anacortes. Coincidentally, this shot of the airplane included the flag flying in front of the Harbormaster’s Office.

Walk on the dock

I highly recommend a walk on the dock at Cap Sante Boat Haven, the downtown marina owned and operated by the Port of Anacortes. This public port facility is just that: public. If the docks don’t appeal to you, stick to the esplanade, or to the wonderful shoreline path leading from the North Basin laundry/shower […]

Great blue

Generally Great Blue Herons are quite spooky, which means you need a telephoto lens to get a decent “portrait.” This heron, however, hangs out in a high traffic area at a local marina, so he’s more approachable.

Coffee on deck

Katie and Vaughn Olson of Boise, Idaho started their morning with a cup of coffee aboard the “Terrier,” docked in the North Basin of Cap Sante Boat Haven. That’s their Newfoundland pup, Bentley, in the foreground. He took a break from his morning snooze on the dock to pose for this family photo.

Bridge and beach

This photo was taken at about 8:45 Wednesday evening from a bluff above North Beach on the Whidbey side of Deception Pass State Park. This spectacular park is a great place to be at any time of day during the summer months.

Bathed in light

A stunning view of the city Wednesday morning from the top of the hill looking north over the city waterfront. That’s Anacortes Marina in the foreground, Fidalgo Bay and Cap Sante Boat Haven in the center, and the Guemes Channel at the top of the frame.

Hit the beach

Tip of the day…visit area beaches now, before the seasonal crowds begin to build. This is a view of North Beach from a path just below the Deception Pass Bridge. Lots of great memories, including the days when we would pack the kids up for a picnic and a romp in the sand. Crowds are […]

North basin reflections

A mid-afternoon drive through Cap Sante Marina’s north basin yielded this beautiful scene. The marina is owned and operated by the Port of Anacortes.
