Stacked four rows deep from the Guemes Channel to the downtown arch were thousands of motorcycles parked while their owners enjoyed Anacortes and the 2011 Oyster Run.
Oyster shells and seaweed break up the pattern of beach rocks on a section of beach near historic Curtis Wharf on the Guemes Channel.
If ever there was a good time to have you and your motorcycle prayed over, September 28 in Anacortes was the day. Volunteers at the Drive Thru Bike Blessing station on Commercial Avenue were busy Sunday afternon as thousands of motorcyclists such as this gentleman made their way in and out of town, most finding […]
It’s only a matter of hours now before the rumble of the annual Oyster Run begins to build in Anacortes. Although the official date of the event is Sunday, bikers had started rolling in Friday. Hate to sound like an old man, but I’m hopeful that those coming and going from Anacortes this weekend will […]
There weren’t a lot of familiar faces among the crowd Sunday at the Oyster Run, so I was surprised to hear a biker shout my name on my way out. Turns out it was Eric Tietjen, Anacortes native and long-time friend. Imagine he’ll be wanting this shot for his scrapbook…
They’re here! It’s “hog heaven” in Anacortes today as the 25th Annual Oyster Run takes place under ideal weather conditions. This photo was taken Sunday morning on Commercial Avenue looking north toward the Port of Anacortes and the state ferry Elwha (in dry dock). More photos later.
A wind from the north blew this large flag into the foreground of a photo looking south on Commercial Avenue Sunday at the peak of Oyster Run 2006. Firefighters (Anacortes and Mount Vernon) hosted this elevated platform, with donations going to Jerry’s Kids. Weather and a notable anniversary undoubtedly contributed to one of the largest […]
This row of Harley Davidson motorcycles in front of the Majestic Inn and Spa Friday evening was just a hint of things to come, as this Sunday marks the 25th Anniversary of the annual Oyster Run. Thousands of motorcyclists will descend on Anacortes today, even though Sunday, September 24 is the “official” date of the […]
City Council member Erica Pickett (right) was among volunteers who started a two-day native oyster planting project in Fidalgo Bay Monday. Bags of shells with seeds were tossed into the bay from the Tommy Thompson Trail trestle at high tide Monday afternoon. Today the bags will be opened and shells “planted” during low tide.
It’s the day before Oyster Run, an annual event that brings thousands of motorcycles into Anacortes. Arriving a day early was Brian Chandler of Bothel, back for his second Oyster Run with his 1957 Chevy Boss Hoss. The “majority” bike is probably a Harley, but there are many custom bikes and other makes as well […]
The rumble of motorcycle engines was constant from Friday night through Sunday evening, when thousands of bikers rolled into … and then out of Anacortes as participants in the 2003 Oyster Run. Motorcycles filled several blocks of downtown Anacortes: one row on each curbside and two rows down the center of Commercial Avenue. Many bikes […]
