Drawn from the crowd like a sailor to sirens was this photographer at the Anacortes Fourth of July parade. These ladies and several others were attired in creative and colorful costumes reminiscent of a Disney “under the sea” scene. Quite clever.
Unimpressed by the antics of those around him, this little guy remained seriously focused as the 2011 Anacortes Fourth of July parade passed in front of him.
Everyone I spoke to yesterday said the parade-opening flyover by a U.S. Navy “Growler” jet was an exhilarating surprise. I only got one shot before the aircraft disappeared. The Growler and a trailing P3 aircraft swooped with a roar up the length of the city’s Commercial Avenue at the beginning of the Fourth of July […]
A parade of boats adorned with colorful pennants was part of a Saturday ceremony marking the opening of Boating Day 2011. Host of the event, held at Cap Sante Boat Haven, was the Port of Anacortes.
A parade of boats was just one of numerous events scheduled Saturday at Cap Sante Boat Haven for the opening day of Boating Season 2011. Other activities included sea shanties, brief speeches, a blessing of the fleet, clam chowder luncheon and a tour of the soon-to-reopen Seafarers’ Memorial Park.
Support of U.S. troops comes in all shapes and sizes. This was one of the parade entries at the 2010 Anacortes Women of Today Independence Day Parade.
This little one saw the 2010 Independence Day parade “from the inside out,” watching the crowd go by from the safety of a fire truck cab among parade participants from Shell Puget Sound Refinery. More photos later in Activities section.
Reminiscent of days gone by, when “town criers” announced the news of the day, official Anacortes Town Crier Richard Riddell will join other dignitaries in celebration of America’s Independence Day on Sunday, July 4. Events include an 11 a.m. downtown parade, followed by festivities at historic Causland Park on 8th Street.
Every parade needs a marching band, and the April 11 Skagit Valley Tulip Parade in LaConner was no exception. Representing Anacortes, and making great music to boot, were members of the AHS Marching Band.
Anacortes Port officials opened the 2010 boating season with a bang – literally – in a 90-minute program at Cap Sante Boat Haven. Colonel Lee Dawes of the Fidalgo Island Artillery Company opened the season with a blast from his cannon. Following the blast was a program with speakers including Town Crier Richard Riddell, Port […]
A perennial “float” in Anacortes parades is this little ferry on wheels, a tribute to this community’s Sister Cities relationship with Sidney, British Columbia.
Included among the Santas in the 2007 Anacortes Lions Christmas Parade was this float sponsored by a local church. In Christian tradition, a number of children dressed up in roles to play shepherds, wise men, Joseph and Mary. All gathered around a baby doll in a manger, calling to mind the humble birth of Jesus […]
