This friendly trio of volunteers waved to an Anacortes Christmas parade crowd from the cab window of a Shell Puget Sound Refinery fire truck. Saturday was a beautiful day for a parade, and as usual the Lions Club invitation drew a great bunch of parade participants.
Members of the Anacortes High School Band braved the elements Saturday to bring music to the 2006 Christmas parade. Hundreds of people lined Commercial Avenue for this annual event. The presence of the AHS Marching Band is greatly appreciated…
It was a wonderful morning for a parade, as evidenced in this photo. Hundreds lined the avenue in downtown Anacortes as Christmas parade entries moved up the street toward Causland Park. Entries included Scouts, a church, horses, a couple of elected officials, Santa, classic cars, firetrucks and other emergency response vehicles, service organizations and more. […]
It’s been a few days since the Fourth of July parade, but I was drawn to this photo because it’s all about America … an old flatbed, bunting, flags and kids. This community gathered and had fun that day. I wish there were many more like it.

Silouetted against the sky on the 4th of July was this pair of EA6B “Prowlers” from the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. The planes flew over downtown Anacortes just before the start of the parade. This was the scene one year ago today when a color guard from Whidbey Naval Air Station prepared to kick off the annual parade sponsored by the Anacortes Women of Today. The noon parade moves along Commercial from 3rd Street to 10th Street, west on 10th to N Avenue, north on N to Eighth Street, […]
Mayor Dean Maxwell (in back seat) participated in Saturday’s Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Lions Club. It was a beautiful “one-horse open carriage” for the city’s top executive, who just one week ago presided over the kickoff of the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle campaign. The lights are now glowing each night at Causland Park, too, […]
Santa was cool in more ways than one Saturday, sporting a pair of sunglasses as his float made its way south on Commercial Avenue during the Lions Christmas Parade. This parade entry was sponsored by the Lions Club. In addition to organizing the popular event, volunteers from the club lined the parade route to ensure […]
No Anacortes parade would be complete without at least one boat entry. Today’s Lions Christmas Parade included this wooden boat, complete with decorative tree. There was also a miniature ferry, and there was no shortage of children, music and treats.

Pictured here are 2004 King Jesse Gregg and Queen Keisha Reynolds, preceded in the parade by cheerleaders and the marching band. The freshman princess is Alyssa Murray, escorted by Senior Dane Schlindwein. The sophomore princess […]
