This season often features fog at Deception Pass, which means many pixels will be invested in fog photos. This woman takes advantage of a Pass Island viewpoint.
I took advantage of a break in the weather … a beautiful Wednesday evening at Deception Pass. Photo taken from trail leading to North Beach. Pass Island rocks, Fidalgo Island in the distance.

A solo kayaker approaches the northwest bluff of Pass Island, which lies between Whidbey and Fidalgo islands. His plan was to pause for a few minutes to pump out water taken on during exercises in the Canoe Pass currents.
With the North Beach parking lot at Deception Pass State Park closed for the season, many hikers opt to access this area from a trail descending from the North Whidbey bridge parking area. Views from the trail are well worth the energy expended to hike down … and up again.

With Deception Pass Bridge paint/repair contractors “on pause” for a couple of winter months, paths on the center island of the Pass are accessible again. And what a view it was Sunday afternoon as the current swirled below! Elements of protective shrouding on the bridge are visible to the right.
Shadow of Deception Pass Bridge cast on the bluffs of Pass Island, as viewed from North Whidbey. Scaffolding serves as evidence of two-year maintenance, repair and paint project by state Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
I shot this photo recently from the center of Deception Pass Bridge, looking east. Currents swirl around the corner of Pass Island, where twin spans meet.
