There’s plenty of high ground on Fidalgo Island, so when it rains we see the creation of countless “mini waterfalls.” Beautiful.
Still remaining on roadways and parks throughout the area is evidence of the damage caused by prolonged rain (saturated ground) and high winds in recent days. This large tree was the only deciduous tree in a stand near the path leading to Rosario Head. Wind split the tree near its base. Another walker at Rosario […]
Rain was light this morning so I ventured out to Rosario Beach. Pictured here are the trunk of a massive tree at the entry to the park and a closeup of one side of the two-sided Maiden of Deception Pass sculpture commissioned 37 years ago by the Samish Tribe. Sculptor is Tracy Powell. If you […]
A mother provides cover for her little one on a boardwalk stroll at Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve (SHIP).
A misty gray morning in Anacortes. At Ship Harbor as a state ferry returns from the San Juan Islands.

Rainfall runoff flows from surrounding highlands to the wetland below, with much of the water ultimately feeding into the saltwater harbor. A beautiful season to enjoy the wooden boardwalk that meanders through wetlands. Already there are signs of […]
With steady rainfall, “waterfalls” such as this are too many to number at the base of Fidalgo Island’s beautiful Mt. Erie. Water levels are rising in lakes including Campbell, Heart and Erie.
Seasonal runoff from Mt. Erie to lowlands takes on the look of a waterfall.
Droplets of water hang from the rubbery soft spring growth on a garden conifer. I had to be reminded yesterday when I complained about the rain that we are blessed here in the Northwest with moderate weather, as opposed to what many others have experienced this year.
Rain, sunshine and a three-day weekend. The garden beckons.
A key element (no pun intended) in the making of lush winter scenes like this one, is rain like that we are experiencing today. Many of our fellow Americans in the Midwest and Northeast are dealing not with inches, but with FEET of snow and ice as they struggle to go about their daily business. […]
